One man is dead and six others were taken to hospital Tuesday morning after emergency crews responded to a report of a gas leak at a Kitchener, Ont., home.

Const. Melissa Quarrie told CBC News that emergency crews responded to the area of Activa Avenue and Periwinkle Street at around 7:35 a.m. ET.

Quarrie said a 25-year-old man was transported to hospital and later pronounce dead. The six others were determined to be suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning and taken to a local hospital for treatment.
