CCS Sports LLP has unveiled the Indian Street Premier League (ISPL), India’s first-ever T10 tennis ball cricket competition that will be held inside a stadium, in an innovative effort to bring the excitement of cricket from the streets to the stadium.
The first edition will take place in 2024, from March 2 to March 9. This extraordinary project, which will include 19 thrilling matches in Mumbai, is sure to enthral spectators and offer aspiring cricket players a once-in-a-lifetime chance to display their skills on a big platform.
Six teams representing Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, and Srinagar will compete in the Indian Street Premier League. The fact that these games will take place in stadiums will enhance the spectacle and flair for both players and spectators.
The primary goal of the ISPL is to provide opportunities for a substantial number of cricket players who aspire to play in elite stadiums like their heroes. Understanding the limitations and financial difficulties that many of these gifted athletes face, the ISPL seeks to close the gap between the streets and the stadium. These players can refine their skills and show off their potential on a national level by participating in this tournament.
BCCI Treasurer, Ashish Shelar, Core Committee Member of the Indian Street Premier League, said, “ISPL is not just a tournament; it’s a transformative journey for aspiring players. Participants will not only compete in a dynamic T10 format but will also receive invaluable coaching tips and advice from seasoned Ranji Trophy players. This mentorship opportunity aims to elevate the skills and understanding of the game among the players, creating a pathway for their future success in the world of cricket.”
Mumbai Cricket Association President, Amol Kale, Core Committee Member of Indian Street Premier League, commented, “The ISPL not only brings a dynamic and entertaining cricket format to the forefront but more importantly, it opens the gates for extraordinary talent that often goes unnoticed. It provides a vital platform for those players who dream of playing inside the stadiums, allowing them to showcase their exceptional skills to a wider audience.”
Ravi Shastri, Chief Mentor, Indian Street Premier League, said, “The ISPL will offer the cricketing dreams of many a chance to flourish on a big stage. I commend the organizers for their vision and commitment to nurturing grassroots talent, and I look forward to witnessing the success stories that will undoubtedly emerge from this exciting venture.”
The Indian Street Premier League is set to be a cricketing extravaganza, combining the energy of the streets with the splendour of stadium cricket.
