Chris Curtis says he sustained torn hamstring during loss to Brendan Allen

It looks like “The Action Man” Chris Curtis will be out of action for the foreseeable future following his loss to Brendan Allen over the weekend.
The ranked UFC middleweight announced Monday he sustained a Grade 3 tear in his hamstring during the five-round split decision that he took on just three weeks’ notice after Allen’s original opponent withdrew.
The UFC Fight Night main event at the UFC Apex was a rematch of a 2021 Curtis technical knockout win over Allen and Curtis was already thinking about a trilogy bout.
“Not the result we wanted, but it is what it is,” Curtis wrote on his Instagram page Sunday before knowing the full extent of his injury. “I thought we had it, but congrats to @b_allen185. Love you brotha and enjoy the night. But remember, it’s 1-1, you owe me the trilogy lol. Rest up and enjoy your family. Thank you all for the support, and I’m sorry. I felt good, I was ready, maybe I’m just getting to (sic) old for this shit. Lol time will tell. Until next time guys.”
He later added: “It looks like I tore my hamstring. Popped it in round 2 and we think it tore in round 5 at the end…Thank you guys for the concern.”

Curtis landed more total strikes (141-128) and more significant head strikes (96-72) than Allen did, however, he only managed to defend seven of Allen’s 13 takedown attempts, which was a clear contributing factor in the final decision – at least for two of the three judges scoring the contest.
The 36-year-old usually stays active – his fight with Allen was his fifth in the past 16 months – but a torn hamstring can be a lengthy recovery. His timetable for a return to the cage is unknown at this time.
Curtis was coming off a split decision win over Marc-André Barriault at UFC 297 in January. He has not won consecutive fights since 2022 and has not lost consecutive fights since 2019.
The member of Xtreme Couture was the No. 14-ranked contender at 185 pounds prior to his rematch with Allen.
