Police just happened to be nearby to defuse a tense situation between a motorcyclist and the gun-wielding driver of a Ford Explorer in Virginia Beach
It was a scary couple of moments in Virginia Beach when an apparent road rage incident nearly devolved into something worse. Fortunately, a police officer was in the right place at the right time to defuse the situation.
Video footage from the driver waiting at a red light behind a blue Ford Explorer ST shows the final seconds of a confrontation between the driver of the SUV and a motorcyclist. Early on, the biker, parked in a blocked off lane, walks toward the Ford’s driver side door, when a black item emerges from behind the window, stopping the biker in his tracks.
The biker then gets back on his motorcycle and gestures at the SUV’s driver in an animated manner. Oddly, he then walks his bike farther in front of the Explorer, gets off again, and reaches into his saddlebag.

That’s when the Ford’s door opens and the driver points the gun at the biker. From the opposite side of the road, a voice can then be heard shouting, “This is the police, put the gun down now.”
According to the Explorer’s driver, the biker was actually responsible for the incident, and he feared for his life. He told Wavy.com that the confrontation started on Interstate 264, when the motorcyclist cut in front of him and started slowing down.
From there, the Explorer’s driver kept trying to get away from the biker, but he kept following. At a stop light near the Virginia Beach Convention Center, the Explorer’s driver claims that the motorcyclist dove at his SUV and fell down. A few blocks later, the incident that was caught on camera occurred.
“I was scared for my life. I was scared for my wife’s life. The current state of the way our country is, you have no idea what anyone is capable of,” he said. “I don’t know what this guy’s problem was. I felt very threatened. I felt threatened for my wife. People are absolutely stupid.”
Although both participants were detained by police at the scene, charges have not been filed against either party.
