The WHL will announce Dan Near as the league’s next commissioner at a press conference on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. ET / 12:30 p.m. PT, Sportsnet’s Jeff Marek reported on Wednesday.

Near was the former head of Adidas Hockey.
He will take over the role from longtime commissioner Ron Robinson who announced in June that he would be stepping down after the 2023-24 season.
“Under Robison’s leadership, the WHL experienced unprecedented growth and survived the challenges of a global pandemic, only to return as strong as ever,” the WHL said in a June news release.
Robinson joined the WHL as commissioner and chief executive officer prior to the 2000-01 season.
