Dave Portnoy ‘million f-king bucks richer’ after cashing in on Michigan-Alabama bet

It’s a good day to be Dave Portnoy.

The Barstool Sports founder is a million dollars richer and is now getting to see his alma mater, Michigan, compete for the national championship.

Portnoy was on hand in Pasadena for Monday’s dramatic Rose Bowl tilt between Michigan and Alabama, which came down to a goal-line stand in overtime that helped the Wolverines prevail.

But Portnoy may have come out the biggest winner of the night after breaking his gambling retirement last month to put $1 million on Michigan to defeat Alabama in the College Football Playoff semifinals.

“Holy f–king s–t, I’m a million f–king bucks richer, we’re going to f–king Houston,” Portnoy said in a video from inside Rose Bowl Stadium after the Michigan win. “Finally the Big Ten punched the SEC in the mouth. Watching their teeth break. Tale of two halves, we dominated the first and they dominated the second. … When everything was on the line, it was the Michigan men who stood up and made plays when we need to.”

Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy led a late-game eight-play, 75-yard drive to tie things at 20 and then it took the Wolverines just two plays to find the end zone in overtime, with running back Blake Corum running 17 yards for the game-winning touchdown.

Michigan’s defense then came up with a stop on a fourth-and-goal from the 3-yard to pull off the win.

Portnoy had been going through a string of bad luck this year on his bets, which eventually caused him to momentarily retire from gambling.

But the Michigan alum seemed happier about seeing the Wolverines advance to the national title game than the massive payout he was looking at from his bet.

“We ain’t done. This is about the national title,” Portnoy said. “Yeah, I’m a million dollars richer. I don’t f–king care. This is about the natty.”

Portnoy showed some sympathy for Alabama, adding that he likes the program and they’ll be back.

He even offered to pay off the rest of Alabama super fan Roll Tide Willie’s house.

“That’s not just a lie, I’ll do it cause I like you Alabama people,” Portnoy said.

Michigan will play the winner of Washington and Texas for the national title next Monday in Houston.
