AUBURN, Ala. (February 19, 2024) – The 2024 SEC Swimming & Diving Championships got underway with a pair of diving events at the James E. Martin Aquatic Center.
In the B Final for the men’s 1-meter springboard, Samuel Duncan of Kentucky tallied a top score of 354.05. Duncan was followed by Allen Bottega of Texas A&M (345.60) and Carson Paul of LSU (321.25).
For the first time in SEC Championship history, team diving events were added to the meet. Each team has three divers who combine to complete a six-dive list, comprising a dive from each group and no more than two from any of the various apparatuses (1-meter, 3-meter and platform). The sum of the six dives creates the team score.
In tonight’s women’s team event, LSU placed first with a score of 322.30. Florida took second place with a score of 303.50 and Auburn claimed third place with a score of 293.35.
Closing out the day was the A Final of the men’s 1-meter. First place went to Victor Povzner of Texas A&M, who finished the night with a score of 403.05. Second place went to fellow Aggie Rhett Hensley (381.60) and third place was awarded to Conor Gesing of Florida (371.30).
Day two of the 2024 SEC Swimming & Diving Championships includes time trials at 10 a.m. CT, followed by prelims of the women’s 1-meter and the B Final of the same event. At 4:20 p.m., the inaugural men’s diving team event will take place. Starting at 5 p.m. will be the finals of the 200 medley relay, the women’s 3-meter and the 800 free relay. All sessions can be viewed live on SEC Network+.
