JOLIET, Ill. — Convicted killer Drew Peterson’s case will be back in court Thursday.
The former Bolingbrook police sergeant is fighting for a new trial. His former attorney, Joel Brodsky, will also be in court facing a contempt charge.
Both are set to begin around 9:30 a.m. Thursday. Peterson’s hearing surrounds his mental fitness in his appeal, while his former attorney is accused of violating a gag order.
A special prosecutor has been assigned to Brodsky’s contempt case because he may be called as a witness if Peterson is successful in getting a new trial.
Peterson was convicted in 2012 for killing his third wife Kathleen Savio. There are also many questions surrounding the disapperance of his fourth wife Stacy Peterson.
Brodsky told WGN Investigates he was thinking about breaking attorney-client privilege and going public with what he knows about both cases.
A judge issued a gag order that he is now accused of breaking.
Peterson said he’s innocent and is asking for a new trial, saying Brodsky errored by not letting him testify.
Brodsky has done several interviews since talking to WGN. At a hearing last month, Brodsky denied he ever broke attorney-client privilege in any of those interviews.
Unlike Brodsky, Peterson is not expected to be at Thursday’s hearing.
