Former Nigerian international, Alloy Agu has warned the Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro to fix the team goalkeeping problem for Nigeria to progress far at the fast approaching 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Recall that the Super Eagles goalkeeping department have come under heavy criticism after Francis Uzoho failed to inspire confidence in recent outings for the three-time African champions.

Besides, there have been persistent calls for head coach, Peseiro to drop him from the team.

However, in a chat with Completesports.com, Agu stated that the technical crew should give every goalkeeper equal opportunity to prove their worth in friendly games before AFCON proper.

He urged the Portuguese tactician to fix the problem before it is too late.

“It’s so sad that the goalkeeping department is still a big issue the team is battling with the moment. The truth is you can’t win a tournament if you don’t have a quality goalkeeper that you can bank on.

“I know there are few games Uzoho made errors that cost the team maximum points. But then, the Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro shouldn’t be told on what to do since there are other goalkeepers waiting in the wing.

“There is need to fix the goalkeeping problem if the Super Eagles must progress far at the 2023 AFCON. He has to give other goalkeepers the opportunity to prove their worth so that we can have a reliable goalkeeper.”
