Nottingham Forest have sacked Steve Cooper after 27 months in charge of the club.
Cooper took over in September 2021 with Forest sat rock-bottom of the Championship and oversaw a stunning turnaround to win promotion via the play-offs, alongside a strong FA Cup run which was ended by Liverpool in the Quarter-Finals.
The 44 year-old went on to keep Forest in the Premier League with survival secured in their last home game of the season, with a 1-0 win over Arsenal which ended the Gunners’ title ambitions and saw Manchester City crowned champions.
This season though has seen Forest struggle with just one win in their last 13 league matches which has left them sat 17th and just five points above the relegation zone.
Forest have consequently acted to the disappointing form by parting company with Cooper with immediate effect.
Owner, Evangelos Marinakis issued the following statement: “Everyone at Nottingham Forest would like to thank Steve for his superb contribution to our football club. His achievement in guiding Forest back to the Premier League will undoubtedly remain an iconic moment in the Club’s history.
“We thank Steve for his dedication and commitment during his time with us, as well as the incredible connection he forged with our supporters and the city of Nottingham.
“Steve will always remain a friend of the Club and will forever be welcome at The City Ground. We wish him well in his future endeavours.”
Forest have confirmed that a new manager will be announced in due course, with ex Wolves and Tottenham manager – Nuno Espirito Santos considered the hot favourite to replace Cooper.
Forest’s next match sees them host Bournemouth at the City Ground on Saturday 23 December in a 3pm GMT kick-off, where the new manager could make his home bow if unveiled within the next few days.
