It’s been over half a decade since it came out. League of Justice – 41%the version of Joss Whedon that Warner ordered carried out after the departure of zack snyder for personal reasons, but the consequences of that decision continue to weigh on the franchise. Now, a former executive, of important rank, admits that she was never happy with the cut that was released in theaters.

What did Diane Nelson say about Joss Whedon’s Justice League cut?

In interview with Bleeding Coohe, diane nelsonformer president of DC Entertainment who left the position in 2018, reveals that it is correct that the studio wanted League of Justice was more cheerful and short, but that he was never entirely happy with the film he delivered Joss Whedon. And that Warner never bothered to carefully plan a franchise that could last long term.

There was never a well-planned, controlled, or confidential process for scheduling the movies, and I think that was the detail that made us look like newbies, compared to Marvel, and by itself. (When Snyder delivered his film) there was a desire to make sure it wasn’t too long and that there was an opportunity to be more lighthearted and have more heart. And then we had brought in another director to help with that.

As you know, Snyder decided to abandon the film, not only because of studio pressure to interfere with his vision, but also because of the unfortunate suicide of one of his daughters. This fact evidently represented the breaking point to separate from the film in favor of caring for his family. It is then that, fresh from the success of The Avengers – 92% and Avengers: Age of Ultron – 75%Whedon was hired by Warner, but that only led to something worse according to the executive:

The final version of the film is horrible, yes. In fact, I would have preferred the longer, darker Snyder movie that originally didn’t want the Frankenstein monster we put in theaters. The trinity of characters, Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, should have easily outshone every other superhero movie, but they didn’t.

Did Warner learn from his mistakes? It looks like it is. After another couple of changes in the administration of the studio, and the DC division, the plan is currently to leave everything to a reboot that, from the beginning, will be driven and designed by two creatives: James Gunn and peter safran. Both will also be presidents of an entire studio that will be in charge of a franchise known as the DCU.

Although we will hardly see the rest of Snyder’s plans for the extinct DCEU, at least his followers managed the premiere of Zack Snyder’s Justice League – 82%, the cut they originally wanted to see. Only time will tell if Gunn can hold his own as the creator of a saga that audiences respond to. We’ll see, in July 2025, if that’s the case with the premiere of Superman: Legacythe first installment that will start the reboot.
