Free fall festivals in San Diego this month

SAN DIEGO — Looking for some family-friendly Halloween events? Recreation centers and parks across San Diego are hosting free fall festivals throughout October.

You don’t have to break the bank to enjoy some spooky fun this season. City officials are inviting San Diegans with kids of all ages to come out for some Halloween-themed fun.

From costume contests, outdoor movies, carnivals, trick-or-treating and lots of candy, there are city events on the schedule for almost every day leading up to Tuesday, Oct. 31.

Here’s a look at the upcoming free fall festival events citywide:

  • Balboa Park Spooktacular in Palisades Plaza on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. 
  • Bay Terraces Community and Senior Center’s Halloween Festival and Trunk O’ Treat on Saturday, Oct. 21, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. 
  • Carmel Mountain Ranch/Sabre Springs Recreation Center’s Halloween Carnival on Friday, Oct. 20, from 5–7 p.m. 
  • Carmel Valley Community Park’s Ghoulish Gathering on Friday, Oct. 27, from 4–7 p.m. 
  • Colina Del Sol Recreation Center’s Trunk or Treat on Friday, Oct. 27, from 5–8 p.m. 
  • Linda Vista Recreation Center’s Movies in the Park, featuring “Vivo,” on Friday, Oct. 27, from 5–8 p.m. 
  • North Park Recreation Center’s Halloween Costume Event & Movie in the Park, featuring “Goosebumps,” on Friday, Oct. 27, at 5:30 p.m.  
  • Ocean Beach Elementary Joint-Use Field Halloween Festival on Friday, Oct. 27, at 4:30 p.m. 
  • Robert Egger-South Bay Recreation Center’s Halloween Carnival on Friday, Oct. 27, from 5–7 p.m. 
  • Standley Recreation Center’s Halloween Movie in the Park, featuring “Hotel Transylvania II,” on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 5:15–7:50 p.m.
