MANILA, Philippine—Gilas Pilipinas Women standout Jhaz Joson will add another feather to her cap right after her collegiate career by flying to Australia.
On Monday afternoon, Joson signed with the Goldfield Giants to start her professional career in the National Basketball League (NBL) 1.
“Jhazmin is a versatile shooting guard that has a quick shot release and high basketball IQ. Coming off her Asia Cup 3×3 tournament playing for the Philippines, Jhazmin’s value is in creating for her teammates as well as being lethal from beyond the arc,” said coach Jaymi Worthington.
“We are looking forward to welcoming Jhaz to the Goldfields and having her part of our squad.”
Most recently, Joson finished her stint with Gilas’ 3×3 squad in the 2024 Fiba Asia Cup where the Filipinos fell short in the quarterfinals.
Joson and Gilas Women’s 3×3 faltered to Chinese Taipei, 19-9, on Sunday at Singapore Sports Hub but not before going on an undefeated five-game run in the continental meet.
Joson also finished her stint with Ateneo in the UAAP’s 86th season to close out her collegiate career with averages of 10.57 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.71 assists per game with the Blue Eagles.
The 24-year-old hooper helped the Loyola squad reach season 86’s Final Four before bowing to eventual-finalist National University in the playoffs.
Joson, though, isn’t the first Filipino to sign a contract with an overseas league this week alone as Jack Animam also signed with NBL1 squad, Ringwood Hawks.
