Golden Knights clinch final playoff spot in West

The Vegas Golden Knights will get a chance to defend their Stanley Cup title this spring.
Vegas locked up the final playoff spot in the Western Conference with a 7-2 win over the Minnesota Wild on Friday.
The result eliminates the St. Louis Blues, who lost to the Carolina Hurricanes earlier on Friday, from playoff contention.
While Vegas won’t be a high playoff seed, the Golden Knights will be a scary opponent after bolstering their roster at the trade deadline by acquiring Tomas Hertl, Noah Hanifin and Anthony Mantha.
Also, Golden Knights captain Mark Stone was cleared to practise Friday after suffering a lacerated spleen on Feb. 20.
The Tampa Bay Lightning are the most recent team to win back-to-back Stanley Cups, doing so in 2020 and ’21.
