WATERVLIET, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A local business marked a milestone on Monday. Gus’s Hot Dogs in Watervliet celebrated 70 years in business.
Gus’s is best known for serving hot dogs and hamburgers topped with their famous meat sauce. They offered customers up to seven hot dogs for 10 cents a piece as a way of thanking them for their continued support.
“My dad started the business in 1954, and my mom came into the picture in 1958,” owner Steve Haita said. “I came into it when I was six years old, and I’ve been doing it ever since. And the whole thing of it is we’ve just been staying at it ever since.”
The first customer arrived about 2.5. hours before the restaurant opened. They stayed open until 10 p.m.
