Police are investigating after thieves used heavy equipment to make their way into a store at the Avalon Mall early Tuesday.
A spokesperson for the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said in a news release that officers were called to Sport Chek shortly after 5 a.m. NT Tuesday.
Officers arrived to find significant damage to the outside of the store and a loader nearby.
Const. James Cadigan said at least one person entered the store and fled the scene in a white Nissan SUV, potentially a Rogue or Murano.
That vehicle was last seen traveling east on Prince Philip Drive after leaving the mall parking lot from Thorburn Road.
Police are asking anyone with information or video footage from the area around the time of the break-in, between 4 and 5:30 Tuesday morning, to come forward.
