IPL 2024| Twitter explodes as Narine-Russell batting prowess propels KKR to dominant victory over Delhi
[ad_1]
Kolkata Knight Riders captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bat first in Visakhapatnam. The KKR opening pair of Phil Salt and Sunil Narine made an explosive start, amassing 58 runs in the first three over. Nonetheless, Delhi’s Anrich Nortje claimed the wicket of Salt in the fifth over, providing the first breakthrough for his the home team. With Narine and Angkrish Raghuvanshi at the crease, KKR reached a formidable 88/1 by the end of the powerplay and Narine completing a swift fifty off just 21 balls. The duo continued their onslaught, propelling their team to 135/1 after 10 overs. Raghuvanshi joined the fifty club in the IPL reaching the milestone in 25 deliveries. In the 13th over, Mitchell Marsh dismissed Narine, who had notched up his highest IPL score of 85 runs from 39 balls. Subsequently, Raghuvanshi departed in the 14th over with the scorecard reading 181/3. With KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer and Andre Russell at the crease, KKR aimed for a big target, reaching 205/3 after 16 overs. However, Iyer’s contribution was short-lived as he was dismissed in the 18th over. Nonetheless, Rinku Singh and Russell built a substantial partnership, adding 32 runs and guiding their team to a colossal 264/5 by the end of the 19th over, making KKR the second team to score the maximum runs in a single innings. Despite their efforts to surpass Sunrisers Hyderabad’s record of 277 runs, Delhi’s Ishant Sharma delivered an exceptional final over, conceding just eight runs and claiming two wickets. Nevertheless, KKR concluded their innings with a formidable total of 272/7 in 20 overs.
The hosts had a shaky start as openers Prithvi Shaw and David Warner walked to bat. Shaw couldnt manage to fire this time as he was departed in the second over. The worry continued as Mitchell Marsh and Warner failed to score and became the victim of their contryman Mitchell Starc. Delhi’s impact sub Abhiskeh Porel got back to the hut scoring a duck with the hosts reeling at 51/4 at the end of the powerplay. However, the Delhi brigade found some stability as Tristan Stubbs and skipper Rishabh Pant built a stable 54 runs stand taking their side to 87/4 in 10 overs. Pant continued his supreme form smashing 28 runs off the 12th over off Venkatesh Iyer and scoring his fifty off 23 deliveries. However, he couldnt translate his fifty to a big number and departed in the 13th over by Varun Chakaravarthy. The 33 year old KKR spinner showed dominance as he rattled the Delhi batting by scalping Axar Patel in the next delivery. Meanwhile, Stubbs who was looking dangerous who scored a 28 ball fifty departed in the 15th over with Chakaravathy striking again. With not much batting left and Sumit Kumar and Rasikh Salam back in the hut, the game was over for Delhi. Ultimately, they were bundled out for 166 runs and losing the contest by 106 runs
