Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have signed young Sri Lankan leg-spinner Vijayakanth Viyaskanth as a replacement for the injured Wanindu Hasaranga for the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024).
The 22-year-old Vijayakanth has one T20I appearance for Sri Lanka. He joins the SRH at his base price of INR 50 lakhs.

Vijayakanth was part of the Sri Lanka squad that took part in the Asian Games last year and he played in one match in which he took 1/28 from four overs. The youngster has played 33 T20s so far in his career and picked up 42 wickets at an economy of 6.76.
Viyaskanth plays for the MI Emirates in the International League T20 and the Chattogram Challengers in the Bangladesh Premier League apart from Jaffna Kings in Lanka Premier League.

Rajasthan Royals’ director of cricket and head coach Kumar Sangakkara had brought him in as a net bowler for the team in the IPL last season. He will now be working with another former Sri Lanka player, Muthiah Muralidaran, the bowling coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Hasaranga was set to turn out for SRH in the 2024 IPL after being bought by the 2016 champions for Rs 1.5 crore at IPL 2024 auction last December.
However, chronic heel pain in his left foot ruled him out of the IPL this year.
He has previously played for Royal Challengers Bengaluru for two seasons. He had a stellar 2022 season, taking 26 wickets with an economy of 7.54, but in 2023 he played only eight games and took nine wickets with an economy of 8.9.
