The pop star, 34, and his Game Of Thrones star spouse, 27, confirmed their split in a statement yesterday, after he obtained a petition for dissolution of marriage in Miami Dade County, Florida, following rumours swirling around missing wedding rings.
After dating since 2016, the former couple took to Instagram to publicly confirm their divorce, asking for privacy for themselves in what they called a ‘united decision’.
In what was Sophie’s only public acknowledgement of the split, ‘a statement from the two of us’ was posted to her Instagram grid.
‘After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage,’ it began.
‘There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children.’
Joe was later photographed with their two daughters – Willa, three, and their one-year-old, whose name hasn’t been shared publicly.
Alongside a female pal helping him with the two girls, the Waffle House singer enjoyed a bit to eat with them at Sweet Butter Kitchen in Los Angeles.
In photographs published by TMZ, Joe wore a striped black and yellow shirt, jeans and a baseball cap and was seen entertaining his youngsters at the table as they sat outside.
It’s been claimed that different lifestyles drove a wedge between Joe and Sophie, with an insider telling the publication: ‘She likes to party, he likes to stay at home. They have very different lifestyles.’
Elsewhere, it’s been suggested that their divorce was provoked by something the Jonas Brothers star saw on their motion-activated security Ring camera.
During initial reports, it was suggested that Joe had been primarily taking care of the couple’s two children over the past three months while on tour.
However, Sophie has been tied to work in the UK, shooting on her latest project, upcoming ITV drama Joan.
A 2020 interview has also been unearthed by Sophie’s fans, in which she seems to say the opposite about the couple’s respective preferences.
While being interviewed by TBS about how their relationship was fairing in lockdown, Sophie described Joe as a ‘social butterfly’ and herself as an ‘introvert’ and ‘homebody’.
She shared: ‘Everything seems to be working out in my favour here because Joe’s a real social butterfly, so I struggle to lock him down and have him just spend time with me, so it’s like prison for him but it’s great for me.’
The couple, who tied the knot in Las Vegas in 2019, are understood to have an ‘ironclad’ pre-nuptial agreement in place, although it does not cover their two children as per state laws.
According to The Blast, it states that both parties will keep any money made from their respective careers during their marriage.
Her estimated net worth sits at around $12million (£9.5m), while Joe is thought to be worth a staggering $50million (£40m).
