The death of John Lennon shocked the world as he was shot four times aged 40 but even more horrifying is the killers’ ‘apology’.

In a new documentary, the December 8, 1980, murder is revisited with exclusive new eyewitness interviews and unseen crime scene pictures, shedding new light on the case.

The trailer Apple TV+’s John Lennon: Murder Without A Trial even revealed what Lennon’s murderer said right after the horrific incident.

One eye witness in the documentary shared: ‘He actually apologised to us, he said: “Gee I’m sorry I ruined your night”.’

Shocked at this casual confession from Mark David Chapman, the man responded: ‘You gotta be kidding me, you just ruined your whole life.’

According to Apple, the documentary, which is narrated by Kiefer Sutherland, will reveal ‘shocking details of Lennon’s tragic murder’ plus interviews with the singer’s closest friends.

Infamously there was minimal investigation into the death as Chapman, 68, waited at the scene and immediately pleaded guilty when the police arrived.

Chapman, then 25, had actually got a signature from the Beatles icon before heshot him twice in the back and twice in the shoulder as he left the venue.

The murderer then sat down and read Catcher in the Rye while he waited while Lennon was rushed to hospital, succumbing to his wounds and being pronounced dead on arrival.

Given his guilty plea, Chapman was sentenced to 20-years-to-life in prison for the Beatle’s murder and was transferred to the Green Haven Correctional Facility in New York last year.

At the time Chapman’s lawyers had tried for an insanity plea, with David Suggs from his defence team interviewed for this new documentary, but the killer refused.

He is said to have started planning the murder three months in advance – and when asked at his most recent parole hearing why he did it, he said it was for ‘self-glory’.

‘I assassinated him, to use your word earlier, because he was very, very, very famous and that’s the only reason and I was very, very, very, very much seeking self-glory, very selfish,’ Chapman previously explained.

The trailer hints at exploration into the conspiracy theories surrounding the high profile death, which have suggested over the years that Chapman was pushed to commit the crime.

He has in the past apologised to Lennon’s wife Yoko Ono, stating it was a ‘despicable’ and ‘extremely selfish act’.

‘I’m sorry for the pain that I caused to her [Ono]. I think about it all of the time,’ Chapman said at his 2020 parole hearing.

John Lennon: Murder Without A Trial is coming soon to Apple TV+.
