It will be a warm, sunny first weekend of autumn with many events taking place in and around Waterloo region.

Grab a sweater Friday evening if heading out to the Stratasphere Drone Show in Waterloo Park. There’s a pre-party DJ and food vendors as part of this free event that’s celebrating the opening of Strata Condos in uptown Waterloo.

If you like to keep life spicy, there’s Goat Fest, a hot sauce and craft beer event at Bingemans on Saturday. CBC K-W’s food columnist Andrew Coppolino provided us with a preview of the event in a recent column.

Micro forests are being planted in both Kitchener and Guelph this weekend. The event in Kitchener involves the city, Bereaved Families of Ontario Midwestern Region and Sustainable Waterloo Region and people are being invited to plant a tree or shrub in Voisin Park on Saturday.

In Guelph, a community tree planting event at York Road Park Saturday morning will be part of the national mini forest pilot project. People are asked to register ahead of time to take part.

Mini forests are common in other countries, Guelph’s program manager for forestry and sustainable landscapes Dave Beaton said in a release.

“Guelph thrives on innovation, and we’re excited to be introducing this innovative technique to help grow our urban canopy cover and breathe more life into the city,” Beaton said.

Related, there’s an autumn equinox forest bathing at Huron Natural Area in Kitchener Saturday morning. The event is free and registration is not required.

If you’re looking for some music to enjoy, there’s the Fest2Fall Music Festival Friday night and Saturday at Dickson Park in Cambridge featuring Dwayne Gretzky, Said the Whale, Sam Roberts Band, BROS and Ruby Waters among others.

As well, Kitchener Fire is holding an open house on Saturday and there’s a dog promenade in downtown Guelph Saturday morning that includes a selfie station with costumes, dog health presentations and a dog scavenger hunt.

If you need gas to get around, here are some local prices:

Other events happening only Saturday include an AI Poetry Party, a big Light Brite, a community art mosaic, a DJ area and a glow-in-the-dark nail station.
