Two Toronto men are facing a slew of charges after what police have characterized as a kidnapping at gunpoint from an apartment building near downtown London earlier this week.
A man called police shortly before 9 p.m. on Sunday to report his friend allegedly being kidnapped at gunpoint in the area of Richmond and Mill streets.
Police were given a description of the suspects and found them trying to run away from the building with the male victim in tow.
“A search of those suspects yielded a loaded firearm,” said Const. Matt Dawson.
“At this time, it appears that this was an isolated incident. We’re just appealing to anybody who would have been in the area who may have surveillance cameras, cell phone video, doorbell cameras and dash cam footage that could have captured the incident to contact London Police Service.”
Police are asking for any footage captured between 5 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Dec. 10.
Two men, aged 19 and 20, both of Toronto, are jointly charged with:
- Kidnapping
- Resisting arrest
- Pointing a firearm
- Uttering threats/death of bodily harm
- Possessing a restricted or prohibited firearm knowingly not holding a license and registration certificate
- Possessing a loaded/unloaded regulated firearm
- Using a firearm during the commission of an indictable offence.
The 19-year-old is also charged with carelessly using a firearm and being in a car with a firearm, while the 20-year-old is additionally charged with handling a firearm in a careless manner and failing to comply with a release order.
Both are scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 15 and remain in custody.
