Lebarron Johnson twirls gem, timely hitting lifts No. 16 Longhorns to 2-0 win

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Texas pitcher Lebarron Johnson Jr. tossed eight strong innings to help the No. 16 Longhorns past Cal Poly 2-0 on Friday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
Johnson threw 100 pitches and allowed two hits with eight strikeouts and 14 groundouts. Gage Boehm earned the save with two strikeouts in the ninth inning.

Texas leadoff hitter Jared Thomas was 2 for 4 with a double and he drove in the first run of the game with a single in the fifth. Peyton Powell smacked an RBI double in the eighth that scored Thomas.
Rylan Galvan and Jalin Flores also had hits for the Longhorns. Three of Texas’ five hits were for extra bases. Dee Kennedy drew a pair of walks.
The teams continue their three-game series at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
