This new video of the Mahindra XUV700’s ADAS misuse has been shared on Instagram by Autojournal India on their page. It has been shared with the caption stating, “XUV 700 ADAS has been in the news since its launch.

Few SAFETY features might have gone against but NOTHING TO DO WITH MANUFACTURER. Mahindra gave INDIA a feature that needed to be nurtured well but it was MISUNDERSTOOD by INDIANS. Here’s AN EXAMPLE OF THE SAME. SHOULD GOVERNMENT MAKE STRICT RULES AGAINST ADAS IN INDIA?

What happens in the video?

As stated above, the video has been shot from the interior of a Mahindra XUV700. In this short Instagram reel, it can be noted that a person sitting on the passenger seat shows the driver’s seat of the car completely empty but it was still driving at a decent speed on the highway.

The video states, “I came by taking a lift but the driver has disappeared.” The video then pans towards the rear middle seat where a person, most likely the driver, was sleeping, and the video stated “the driver has fallen asleep”. The cameraman then once again pans towards the road which shows a truck moving ahead in a distance but the highway was mostly empty.

Why is ADAS misuse so dangerous?

The misuse of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) in India poses many dangers. This is because generally these misuses are shown via reels and this results in a combination of distracted driving, inaccurate representation of risky behavior, potential legal repercussions, and encouragement of irresponsible actions.

Such misuse not only diverts the driver’s attention from the road, leading to accidents, but also portrays unsafe driving practices that can be imitated by others. On top of this, misuse of ADAS features takes away from the intended purpose of ADAS, which is to enhance road safety when used appropriately. So we urge everyone reading this to never misuse the ADAS features of your car.

Should the government ban ADAS features because of misuse in India?

In our opinion, the government of India should NOT ban ADAS features in the country because of misuse.

Instead, the government should take measures to educate drivers about the proper use of these technologies and enforce regulations to deter misuse. Banning ADAS features would deprive responsible drivers of the safety benefits they offer.

It would also hinder technological advancements aimed at improving road safety. So because of these reasons, the government should ban it.

Since the launch of the XUV700, a number of other cars have also started offering ADAS, and we have also seen how this feature has saved lives of people in numerous situations.
