Miami Marlins’ Skip Schumaker has been named the 2023 National League Manager of the Year after his first season as a big league manager.
The award, which is voted on by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America (BBWAA), was revealed on MLB Network.

Schumaker led the Marlins to their first post-season appearance since 2020 by posting an 84-78 record. They finished in the National League’s second wild card spot and were eliminated by the Philadelphia Phillies.
The 43-year-old received eight of a possible 30 first-place votes in a tight race for the honour.
Former Milwaukee Brewers manager Craig Counsell and Atlanta Braves skipper Brian Snitker were the other finalists for the award.
Snitker finished third after receiving eight first-place votes as well, but didn’t get the same amount of second- and third-place votes as Schumaker and Counsell — who finished second.
After handing out the AL and NL Rookie of the Year awards Monday, the BBWAA will reveal its Cy Young winners on Wednesday and the MVPs on Thursday.
