Maruti Suzuki is one of the largest car manufacturers in India. They have a variety of models in their range that are spread across several segments. Some of these popular models from the brand are no longer available in the market. One such model is the Maruti Esteem. This four-door sedan was the first from Maruti and was initially launched in the market as the Maruti 1000. It got the Esteem nameplate in 1994. It was a popular car among enthusiasts, and many people even prepared it for rally purposes as well. Here, we have a video that shows how a Maruti Esteem recovers from a rollover on a rally stage.

The video has been shared by Mundodi Vlogs on their YouTube channel. In this video, we see a Maruti Esteem being driven on a rally track in Gonikoppal, Coorg district in Karnataka. The rally was organized by the South Coorg Farmers Association & Kaveri Dasara Seva Samithi on account of Gonikoppal Dasara Celebration. The Esteem was being driven on the track quite aggressively, and the driver was probably trying to set a new time on the track.

We can see him taking turns neatly. At one of the corners, the driver turns the car a bit too much, and he loses control of the car. The car immediately rolls over. For a second, it felt like the car was out of the race. However, the car recovered from this rollover, and all four wheels were on the ground. The track was actually created in an open ground, and it had several uneven sections, which would cause the driver to lose control. This is what happened in this case. The Esteem seen in the video looks prepared for rallying, and in that case, the cabin will have a roll cage.

The roll cage is installed in these cars for the safety of the driver and co-passenger. The roof did not cave in because of this reason only. The bonnet of the car is slightly damaged. Other than this, everything else in the car seems to be working. The driver engaged the gear and resumed the race. He finished the stage without any other incidents. The Maruti Esteem was extremely popular in the rally scene in the 90s and was the preferred choice of many teams due to its high power-to-weight ratio when compared to other cars. Being a Maruti, the Esteem was also quite easy to maintain.

The Maruti Esteem was launched during the Auto Expo in 1994. With the launch of the Maruti 1000 in 1990, the Indian manufacturer entered the sedan segment. It was marketed as a luxury sedan and was offered at a price of Rs 3.81 lakh. This was a lot of money for a car during that time. The Esteem came powered by a 1.3-litre petrol engine that churned out a maximum power of 65 PS and peak torque of 90 Nm. The second generation of the Esteem came with an even more powerful engine, capable of producing around 85 PS of maximum power. The one seen in the video probably looks like the later version.
