Massachusetts weather threat: More severe storms, flash flooding, ‘low risk for an isolated tornado’

Had enough of this stormy and muggy summer?
Yet another round of strong to severe thunderstorms could be on their way to the region on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
The main hazards with these storms will be damaging winds, large hail, and flash flooding on Friday morning and afternoon.
The ground has been extremely wet from all of the recent rain, so any heavy rain can spark flooding.
Friday will be a very warm and humid day, with dewpoints surging into the tropical 70s and temps in the 80s.
These storms on Friday will also bring a lower but still present risk of tornadoes.
“… A low risk for an isolated tornado… a 2% chance of tornadoes across eastern MA and RI,” the National Weather Service’s forecast discussion reads.
So far this year, four tornadoes have been confirmed in Massachusetts — doubling the annual average of two tornadoes.
Last week, a brief tornado hit Mattapoisett on the South Coast, and then a twister touched down in Barnstable on Cape Cod.
Following the stormy and humid day on Friday, a cold front is expected to sweep across the region late in the day, ushering in drier, cooler and less humid weather into Saturday.
NWS wrote, “Behind that front will be a refreshing blast of cooler and drier air as dewpoints drop from the low 70s Friday into the low to mid 50s by sunrise Saturday morning.”
