McLaren’s newest supercar evolves an elegant formula.
The introduction of the McLaren GT saw the racing-bred manufacturer introduce a take on its supercars that combined McLaren’s driver’s car ethos, impressive performance, and also a sense of luxury, understated style, and everyday usability. The supercar offered a McLaren driving experience with the added bonus of a plush interior and even space for golf clubs. However, the McLaren GT has now been replaced, and the new 2024 McLaren GTS has taken its place.
The brief is the same as the GT’s: create a supercar with both McLaren’s incredible driving dynamics and performance and everyday luxury and comfort. However, the GTS features a few improvements upon the GT’s formula, especially in the performance department. It’s more powerful by 14 horsepower, coming in at 626 horsepower, and it’s also lighter by 22 pounds at 3,351, giving it what McLaren says is a class-leading power-to-weight ratio of 414 horsepower per ton. When your foot is to the floor, that means you’ll get from 0-60 in a scant 3.1 seconds, which is especially impressive for a car that fits a set of golf clubs in the back.
McLaren’s signature agile character is also present, thanks to intelligent adaptive suspension and standard carbon ceramic brakes, which contribute on both the luxury and performance fronts. When it comes to the GTS’s luxury and style, McLaren ensured that the elegant silhouette of the GT remained relatively unchanged, with a few tweaks to give the new supercar a refreshed look.
In addition, a new Lava Grey color option, unique “Turbine” wheel design, and available Softgrain Aniline Leather upholstery with a double-piping pattern and contrast stitching show that when it comes to the creature comfort factor of the new GTS, McLaren made sure to sweat the details.
The McLaren GT showed off a slightly softer side to McLaren, combining everyday luxury and comfort with the brand’s irresistible signature driving thrill, and the new 2024 McLaren GTS, which is available to order now with delivery in 2024, aims to do the same, but better.
