Meghan Markle plans to become director ‘on major project this year’

The Duchess of Sussex is said to have told her new team at talent agency WME she sees herself in a new role behind the camera, rather than in front of it.
A senior production source confirmed: “She believes the time is right for her to make the leap from actor to auteur.
“She is aiming to land the director’s chair on at least one major project this year.” However, it is not likely Meghan will make her directorial debut on the movie version of Meet Me At The Lake, the steamy best-seller her production company Archewell is turning into a film for Netflix.
The book’s Canadian author Carley Fortune said of the deal: “I can’t imagine a more perfect partnership.”
But our source stressed: “This film has already been delayed by the strikes and Netflix wants an experienced director to push it along as quickly as possible.
“But there is no reason why Meghan shouldn’t cut her teeth in the coming months at the helm of a less-pressing project. She’s really keen to get her first ‘hands-on’ chance.”
Prince Harry and Meghan had a mixed 2023, with the couple branded among the industry’s “biggest losers” by showbiz bible The Hollywood Reporter.
Yet Meghan is enjoying new success as a result of the Netflix relaunch of her TV legal drama Suits, which topped US download charts for an astonishing 15 consecutive weeks late last year.
The show has become so popular again that two of Meghan’s former co-stars – Patrick J Adams and Gabriel Macht – were announced last week as awards presenters at tonight’s Golden Globes.
This has fuelled further speculation of a possible cast reunion for a one-off Suits special. And our source revealed: “Despite her directing ambitions, Meghan has not – repeat not – closed the door completely on acting.
“A Suits reunion is something that is definitely being talked about.”
However, among the British public, the couple come second to the Prince and Princess of Wales. In a Sunday Express poll by WeThink, 46 per cent believed William and Kate had enjoyed a better 2023 than their Montecito counterparts, and would fare better again this year.
