The hot dual-motor MG 4 XPower has been locked in for Australia as the first examples have been spied on local roads.
Ahead of a launch in November 2023, a Racing Green MG 4 XPower has been snapped in Sydney’s east by a member of the MG4 Owners Australia Facebook group.
The hot hatch has a dual-motor all-wheel drive powertrain producing 320kW of power and 600Nm of torque, up 140kW on the current flagship Essence with the 77kWh battery.
The XPower uses the smaller 64kWh battery, and has 385km of range on the WLTP cycle.
It has a claimed 0-100km/h time of 3.8 seconds.
The XPower will be MG’s first dual-motor all-wheel drive electric vehicle (EV) in Australia.
Over lesser MG 4 models, the high-performance variant gains orange brake calipers, a black roof, unique 18-inch alloy wheels, polished trim accents and its unique Racing Green exterior finish.
All MG 4s are underpinned by MG’s new Modular Scalable Platform, but for the XPower the company has made various technical enhancements.
There are recalibrated springs and dampers and stiffer anti-roll bars, with MG claiming it has increased suspension stiffness by up to 25 per cent. It also claims the steering is sharper.
The MG 4 XPower debuts a new Dynamic Cornering Control System, featuring an electronically locking differential and Intelligent Motor Control that allows for torque vectoring between all four wheels.
There are uprated, ventilated 345mm four-wheel disc brakes sitting behind Bridgestone Turanza tyres.
MG Australia has yet to announce pricing for our market.
In the UK, it’s priced from £36,495 (A$69,878), or around £10,000 (A$19,087) more than the cheapest MG 4. For reference, the MG 4 range opens in Australia at $38,990 before on-road costs.
