Mitsubishi Teases An Electrified Adventure-Ready Model

Mitsubishi announced a surprise unveiling for the Japan Mobility Show 2023, showing a single teaser of a mysterious electrified vehicle that looks like an off-road minivan concept.

The dark photo only shows us the front end of the car, revealing single-box proportions and hinting at a generous ground clearance. Besides the T-shaped LEDs and the illuminated Mitsubishi emblem, we can see something like a pop-up roof, and a front passenger seat that is facing towards the back. The number of people walking in front of the vehicle suggests it will be a 6-seater, with enough cargo space for their luggage and hiking/camping equipment.

The company remains coy on details but hopes that this adventurous vehicle will make you “want to try new things”. There will be some sort of electrified powertrain offering four-wheel control technology, with the goal of safe and comfortable driving “in any weather and on any road surface”.

The press release also mentions the Pajero, the Delica D:5, and the Outlander PHEV, making us believe that the new vehicle could combine elements from those, like off-road capabilities, a spacious and comfortable interior, and a battery that can power appliances while being off the grid.

A few months ago, Mitsubishi announced no less than 16 new production models coming in the next five years. Among those, there will be two minivans – one with a combustion engine and another one with a self-charging hybrid powertrain. However, chances are that the teaser depicts a concept rather than a future production vehicle, so it could be unrelated to the aforementioned models.

The Japan Mobility Show 2023 will take place at the Tokyo Big Sight from October 28 to November 5, but Mitsubishi will show us the vehicle during the press day on October 25. The automaker’s motto for this year’s exhibition is “awaken the adventurous spirit within you” which makes us believe that its lineup might also include other off-road-prepped concepts based on existing Mitsubishi products.
