Through its alliance with Renault and Nissan, Mitsubishi has started selling rebadged versions of the Renault Clio and Captur in Europe as the latest-generation Colt and ASX. The next vehicles it will source from the French include the Scenic E-Tech and a second, unspecified model, tipped to be powered by a combustion engine.

A single teaser image released of the first of these two models shows that it shares a striking resemblance to the Scenic E-Tech. This is particularly apparent with the overall shape of the SUV as well as the LED taillights that appear identical. However, Mitsubishi does appear to have altered the shape of the daytime running lights, helping to give the SUV a little bit of its own personality, rather than being a millimeter copy of the Renault.

Speaking with Auto News about the new model, Mitsubishi Europe head of marketing Alex Thomas said it “will be a key pillar for our line-up,” adding that it is the firm’s “strategy to focus on the core segments in Europe.” The new model will arrive in 2025.

Like the Scenic E-Tech, the new Mitsubishi will be based on the same CMF-EV architecture as used by the Megane E-Tech and the Nissan Ariya. It may also be sold with the same powertrain options as its French twin, including a 60 kWh battery pack with a single 168 hp electric motor, and an 87 kWh version with a 215 hp motor.

Little is known about the second Renault-sourced model Mitsubishi is working on but Auto News speculates it could be based on the Austral compact SUV.
