Besides owning some of the most exclusive and rare motorcycles in the Indian context, former Indian cricket team captain MS Dhoni also has a few iconic and even rarer cars in his collection. The cricketer’s farmhouse in Ranchi, Jharkhand houses some of the most beautiful cars and motorcycles and keeps on expanding with new additions, most of which are antique vehicles from the bygone era. MS Dhoni added an iconic 1969 Ford Mustang, the first pictures of which have landed on the internet.
A few pictures shared by the Instagram account of “Car Crazy India” show the new prized possession of MS Dhoni – a beautifully restored, black-coloured 1969 Ford Mustang. This iconic American muscle car was owned by a Chennai-based man before it landed in the car collection of MS Dhoni. This black Ford Mustang looks in a pristine shape, which is a delight for car enthusiasts.
The 1969 Ford Mustang Hardtop added by MS Dhoni in his car collection sports a black shade, with the car also featuring gloss black bumpers and stock silver alloy wheels. The car also has the iconic rounded headlamps, dual exhaust ports and tri-bar tail lamps with chrome surrounds, which make it look like in stock condition. The set of pictures of the car that have landed on the internet doesn’t reveal its interior, though a sneak peek through the windows shows that the car has possibly a black-themed cabin.
This particular version of the 1969 Ford Mustang in MS Dhoni’s car collection is the Mach I variant, which comes with a hood scoop and a 7.0-litre water-cooled V8 engine under the hood. This “Cobra Jet” engine produces 335 bhp and transfers all the power to the rear wheels. This first-generation Ford Mustang was never sold in India officially, however, some affluent people in India imported it from overseas. Many of these first-gen Mustangs are still plying on the roads of India in well-kept conditions, which makes them priceless.
Mustang came to India
Ford did bring the sixth-generation Mustang officially to Indian shores, which continued to be on sale until the BS6 emission norms kicked in. The sixth-gen Ford Mustang sold in India was the GT version, which was available solely with a 5.0-litre naturally-aspirated V8 petrol engine. This engine came with a standard 6-speed automatic transmission and was detuned for India, thus claiming 400 bhp of power and 549 Nm of torque.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s cars
In a brief video clip, Mahendra Singh Dhoni was seen in the driver’s seat of his new car. Known for his love of driving, Dhoni is often spotted on the roads of Ranchi, Jharkhand. His new car, a Mercedes-AMG G63, stands out with its special registration number “0007”, reflecting Dhoni’s jersey number “7” during his cricket career.
Dhoni’s garage is filled with motorcycles and off-roaders. He previously owned a customized Mahindra Scorpio Classic, and his current collection includes the Nissan 4W73 pick-up truck, also known as the One-Ton, which has been beautifully restored in a striking hulk green color by SD Nakodar.
Among his luxury vehicles, Dhoni’s Jeep Grand Cherokee TrackHawk is the most powerful SUV in India, equipped with a 6.2-litre hellcat engine delivering a maximum power of 707 Bhp and a peak torque of 875 Nm. He has also recently acquired a restored all-black Defender 110 with a Kahn X-Lander Grille, as well as a beautifully restored 52-year-old Land Rover Series-3 station wagon.
Dhoni’s glass mega garage is home to his extensive motorcycle collection, numbering over 150 bikes, including vintage motorcycles from Norton, Jawa, and BSA. He is often seen riding his BMW R71 sidecar with fellow cricketer Hardik Pandya, and his favorite bike is the Yamaha RD350. Dhoni also owns modern motorcycles such as the Kawasaki Ninja H2, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14R, Harley Davidson Fat Boy, and the rare Confederate X132 Hellcat.
