Netflix, a global streaming service, has partnered with Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), a sports agency and boxing promoter, for a new boxing event that will include a fight between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson.

The match will be held on July 20 at Arlington, Texas’s 80,000-seat AT&T Stadium and will be broadcast live on Netflix.

That arena has previously held a number of boxing events, most recently a welterweight world title unification contest between Yordenis Ugas and Errol Spence Jr, which attracted over 40,000 spectators.

In 2021, 73,126 people attended the super-middleweight title unification bout between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Billy Joe Saunders, breaking the historic indoor boxing audience record.

Notably, it is unclear whether the main event Tyson vs Paul battle will be held as an exhibition or a legitimate professional contest, amid concerns regarding Tyson’s recent health, who will be 58 at the time of the event.

The Paul-Tyson bout will be Netflix’s third live sporting event, after the Netflix Cup golf competition and the Netflix Slam tennis competition.

This is even though in 2023, Netflix’s Co-CEO Ted Sarandos indicated that it did not see a route to profitability in that area.

Despite Sarandos’ concerns, Netflix lately has substantially invested in not only airing live sporting events but also acquiring the rights to others.

In January, the streaming service inked a contract with the professional wrestling company WWE to broadcast its flagship Monday Night Raw live event in a variety of worldwide regions beginning 2025.

Netflix will stream the weekly 3-hour live show in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and throughout Latin America. The corporation also stated that new regions will be included to the agreement during its duration, which is believed to be up to ten years.
