An American food distribution company has opened a plant in Ingersoll, Ont. employing 70 people with plans already underway to expand.
The Dot Foods Canada employees at the $50-million facility located on Ken McKee Street, near the 401, will work in the warehouse and driving trucks.
Construction on the 168,875 square-foot building wrapped up this spring, with the grand opening taking place Friday. The company’s CEO said the plant’s frozen food section will expand in the next three to five years with work available for 130 additional staff.
“We need more physical space and a larger team to keep up with the demand,” wrote Dick Tracy, DOT Foods CEO in a statement.
Dots Food Canada Inc. had been based in Brantford in a leased facility. The only other Canadian distribution centre is in Calgary.
“This investment not only signifies their commitment to our region but also paves the way for a brighter future,” said Arpan Khanna, MP for Oxford in a written statement.
As part of its ribbon cutting ceremony, Dot Foods announced a $50,000 donation to be shared by six area non-profits which includes:
- The Alzhemer’s Society in London.
- The Salvation Army in London and Ingersoll.
- The Oxford County United Way.
