2024 Maruti Swift International Variant: First Drive Review
[ad_1]
The Suzuki Swift is a car that needs no introduction. It is a popular hatchback from a Japanese car manufacturer known around the world. We know that Suzuki has launched the next-gen Swift internationally, and the same is expected to be launched in our market in a few months’ time. Here we have a video where a foreign automobile journalist shares his views about the new Swift after driving it.
The video has been shared by Bob Flavin on his YouTube channel. In this video, the presenter is actually attending the official media drive of the Swift. It is the international variant, which means it gets some features that would be removed when the car comes to India. The presenter talks about the exterior. The design of the new Swift is an evolution from the previous-gen model.
The headlamps look a bit sleeker, the redesigned front grille, and the new bonnet are all visible here. Coming to the bonnet, the presenter mentioned that the design of the bonnet is such that it leaves an obvious gap between the bonnet and the bumper. It looks odd in some color options, as it feels like there is a huge panel gap.
The side profile of the car remains more or less the same. However, in terms of dimensions, the Swift has grown. The floating roof design, electric ORVMs, alloy wheels with a new design can all be seen here. The position of the rear door handle can now be seen on the door and is not hidden on the C-pillar anymore.
The rear offers a redesigned bumper, clear lens LED tail lamps, an integrated spoiler, and Swift branding. The car offers a decent amount of boot space, which is 265 liters. As mentioned above, the Swift has grown in size, and this has resulted in a bit more spacious cabin than before. The car offers enough space even when the driver’s seat is adjusted for his height.

The presenter then takes the car for a spin and is impressed with it. He calls it a small, exciting car that is powered by a small engine that is always putting in maximum effort. The car weighs less than 1,000 kilograms, which helps in making it more fun to drive and efficient.
The car he is driving here is the mild-hybrid manual variant of the Swift with a manual transmission. It is powered by a new 1.2-liter three-cylinder Z series mild-hybrid petrol engine, which replaces the older 4-cylinder unit. This engine will be offered with a manual and AMT gearbox option in India.
The presenter mentions that the Swift feels good to drive on the road but he finds the overspeed alert chime very irritating. This international variant comes with ADAS features, which we are assuming Maruti would skip for our market (for competitive pricing).
The driver can turn off these chimes from the MID, but every time you turn off the car, these notification chimes go back to their default setting, which the presenter feels is a bit irritating.
This hatchback has been on sale for over 15 years, and its popularity doesn’t seem to be waning. In India, too, the Swift is a popular car among both youngsters and family buyers. One of the main reasons for that is its looks and fun-to-drive nature.
