Nigerian Army champions of the 2024 National Open Shooting Championship

The Nigerian Army has emerged as the champions of the 2024 National Open Shooting Championship, sponsored by the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla.
At the conclusion of the five-day National Championship held at the indoor sports hall of Moshood Abiola Stadium (Package B) in Abuja, the Nigeria Army secured a total of 10 medals, comprising 7 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze.
The Department of State Services (DSS) finished in second place with 4 gold, 7 silver, and 2 bronze medals. The Nigeria Navy secured third place with 1 silver and 2 bronze medals, while the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) claimed fourth place with 1 silver and 1 bronze.
Target Games Club secured fifth position with 1 silver and 1 bronze, followed by the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) in sixth place with 2 bronze medals. North East won 1 bronze medal, securing seventh place in the National Open Shooting Championship.
Brigadier General Abdulrahim Bello, the Acting Director of Physical Training Army, commended the shooters for their outstanding performances at the Championship. He emphasized that the Army’s performance reaffirms its position as the leading agency in shooting, pledging continued support for the growth of sports.
Brig Gen Bello stated, “The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, will be impressed that the Nigerian Army emerged winners of the National Shooting Championship. I want to congratulate the shooters who represented the service at the championship because they put on a brilliant display against their opponents.
“The Nigerian Army will ensure it continues to give support to its athletes to achieve maximum output. We have numerous sporting activities in the coming months, and I want to assure you that the Nigerian Army will not relent in its quest to dominate Nigeria and Africa at large.”
The team’s Capture/Coach, Major Oluremi Olusegun, also expressed appreciation to Brigadier General Bello for his consistent support and guidance provided to the team.
