OG Anunoby says goodbye to the Toronto Raptors

[ad_1]

It may be short and sweet, but did anyone expect anything less from OG Anunoby?

After having a couple days to digest the trade, and notching his first game as a New York Knick, Anunoby took to social media for his first post in over a year to thank Raptors fans for his time in Toronto.

Wrote Anunoby, “thank you to all the incredible fans in canada, my teammates and the entire toronto raptors organization for an amazing 7 years,” ending with a heart emoji.

The post may be short, but the collection of photos spoke more than words would. Anunoby, 26, highlighted some of the very best moments of his tenure with Toronto, including a variety of posters he had that shook Scotiabank Arena, to various teammates that he played with, from DeMar DeRozan, Kyle Lowry, Serge Ibaka and Marc Gasol.

The post also included arguably Anunoby’s greatest moment as a Toronto Raptor: his Game 3 buzzer beater to avoid going down 3-0 against the Boston Celtics in the second round of the 2020 NBA Bubble Playoffs.

Current Raptors Gradey Dick, Dennis Schroder and Christian Koloko, as well as former teammate Norman Powell were among those who shared the love for the new Knick.

Fans left an outpouring of comments highlighting their own favourite moments from Anunoby’s seven-year tenure as a Raptor, including quotes from his “rivalry” with Ibaka and the scarf debates, to a slew of iconic dead-pan comments that made Raptors fans fall in love with his personality.

It’s safe to say Toronto will miss one of the more beloved members of the We The North era of the Raptors, as just Pascal Siakam and Chris Boucher remain from the championship team.

Anunoby was selected 23rd overall in the 2017 NBA Draft. He won an NBA Championship with the Raptors in 2019, as well as notching his first career NBA All-Defensive Team in 2023.

The Raptors will get to visit Anunoby and his new team soon, as they take on the Knicks on Jan. 20 at Madison Square Garden. Anunoby will make his first return to Scotiabank Arena on March 27.
