A 48-year-old man was rushed to the hospital on Saturday afternoon after a serious accident at a major intersection on the outer ring road.
The spokesperson for the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary did not report any other injuries, but said the man was found to be in breach of court orders and charged at the scene. He will appear in court at a later date.
The collision between a car and a tractor-trailer occurred in the early afternoon in the Northbound lane on the cloverleaf between Pitts Memorial Drive and the Trans Canada Highway.
The man’s car was heavily damaged, with pieces of twisted metal scattered throughout the road, and the tractor-trailer was parked not far from the scene.
Several officers were at the scene, taking pictures and investigating the incident, with police closing nearby roads.
Traffic leading to the road was backed up for a few hours.
