Gary O’Neil has described Wolves’ fightback to beat Tottenham 2-1 at Molineux as a “proud” moment in his managerial career.

Late second-half injury-time goals from Pablo Sarabia and Mario Lemina saw Wolves come from behind to beat Tottenham, who had led through Brennan Johnson’s third minute goal – which marked his first goal for the club since his summer move from Nottingham Forest.

The result meant that Wolves have won at home against the two teams who had sat top coming into the weekend, after they beat Manchester City in late September by the same result.

For O’Neil, the win also marked his second triumph over Spurs in this calendar year alone, after he led Bournemouth to victory in North London in April.

O’Neil though felt that this victory was his best yet as a manager, as he explained: “It may be the most proud I’ve been of a group since I’ve started coaching.

“I thought we were the better side apart from the first five minutes when we were slow, but even at 1-0 down, with 85 minutes on the clock, I was just proud of the group.

“I thought they had a really good understanding of what we were trying to do and then the mentality to keep going was excellent. I was disappointed that I was going to have to deliver a speech here to the lads around, ‘Well done, but unlucky’.

“But the mentality to go and get an equaliser and then go and get a winner was incredible and fully deserved.”

Sarabia meanwhile netted his first goal of the season and second for Wolves since his move in January – having failed to score since he put them ahead in a 1-1 draw at Fulham in late February.

Reflecting upon the Spaniard’s goal then assist for Mario Lemina’s winner, O’Neil praised Sarabia for his “unbelievable quality,” especially to make the difference to a side which weren’t “incisive around the goal,” for much of the game.

Wolves now head into the international break on 15 points ahead of two away trips to the UK capital against Fulham and Arsenal on 25 November and 2 December respectively.
