Movie of the Week: Fremont Drags in the 60s

Opened in 1959, the Fremont Drag Strip, later known as Baylands Raceway, was a Northern California institute of drag racing. Located about 30 miles southeast of the San Francisco Bay Area, this iconic strip location hosted the who’s who of the NHRA, and featured the first 7 and 6 second 1/4 mile runs.

Check out this great footage below, primarily shot in the early to mid 60s. As a bonus, I’m pretty sure thats some 50s shots of El Mirage at the beginning, too. Great stuff!
