The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), a governing body of men’s professional tennis circuits, has forged a five-year partnership with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF).

The partnership has enabled PIF to step in as the title sponsor for a range of prestigious ATP Tour events and serve as the naming partner for the men’s player rankings.

The agreement includes top-tier tournaments like the season-ending ATP Finals and the youth-focused Next Gen ATP Finals, both set to unfold in the vibrant Saudi city of Jeddah in 2024.

Additionally, PIF will associate with prominent ATP Masters 1000 tournaments, including the Indian Wells Open, the Miami Open, and the ATP 500 China Open in Beijing.

ATP chief executive Massimo Calvelli stated: “Our strategic partnership with PIF marks a major moment for tennis. It’s a shared commitment to propel the future of the sport. With PIF’s dedication to the next generation – fostering innovation and creating opportunities for all – the stage is set for a transformative new period of progress.”

Mohamed AlSayyad, PIF head of corporate brand added: “Through our collaboration with ATP, PIF will be a catalyst for the growth of the global tennis landscape, developing talent, fostering inclusivity, and driving sustainable innovation. This strategic partnership aligns with our broader vision to enhance quality of life and drive transformation in sport both within Saudi and across the world.”

Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund, the Public Investment Fund, has recently made notable moves in the sports industry. In October 2021, the PIF invested £300 million in Newcastle United F.C., which marked its entry into the English Premier League (EPL). Additionally, through its division, Golf Saudi, the fund backed the establishment of LIV Golf Investments, introducing the LIV Golf professional tour, previously dubbed the Super Golf League.

The Association of Tennis Professionals is largely responsible for organizing and overseeing various tournaments worldwide. The governing body ensures the smooth functioning of the men’s professional circuit. Notable upcoming tournaments include the Miami Open starting on March 20, the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters scheduled for April 7, and the Mutua Madrid Open set to take place from April 24.
