Two people are dead in Fauquier County, Virginia, following a single-engine plane crash on Sunday afternoon, authorities say.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) told WTOP that around 3:45 p.m., a single engine Beech C23 plane had been attempting to land at Warrenton-Fauquier Airport when it hit several trees and crashed into a field approximately 3/4 of a mile southeast of the airport.
The plane caught fire near Midland Road and Ebenezer Church Road, according to Virginia State Police.
Authorities said both the pilot and one passenger aboard the plane died at the scene of the crash. Identities of the victims have not been released.
The NTSB said they expect to dispatch an investigator Monday to examine the scene and aircraft.
VSP said no one on the ground was injured as a result of the crash and its cause remains under investigation.
