Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo Butchered By Headlight Thieves In Germany
[ad_1]
It is not uncommon for parts to be stolen from parked vehicles, but a new case that took place in Düsseldorf, Germany is one of the most brutal we’ve seen. Thieves ripped the headlights of a Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo, destroying the front fenders in the process and causing a five-digit damage to the EV.

Imagine being the owner of the pictured Taycan and finding it in that state before going to work. The “evisceration” most likely took place during the night, when the vehicle was parked on the street. In their quest to remove the desired items as quickly as possible, the thieves butchered the car using some sort of sharp tool.

Photos of the aftermath were shared on Reddit, attracting plenty of attention from Porsche fans who were “traumatized” by the sight of the blinded Taycan. The front fenders are cut in half, and the sheet metal is bent, exposing the internals. This violent act is an unconventional way for the thieves to access the headlight wiring, being unable to properly remove the adjacent body panels.
Interestingly, the thieves didn’t take anything other than the headlights from the Mamba Green Metallic electric wagon. Even the alloy wheels were left intact, despite being considered an easy target. As you can imagine, the matrix LED units of the Porsche Taycan are quite pricey. In the US, each headlight costs a whopping $4,390, which translates to $8,780 for a new pair.
A Reddit commenter who owns a body shop said that some automakers like BMW make it nearly impossible to swap headlights between different cars by encoding them to the original vehicle by VIN. We don’t know if Porsche has a similar policy, but a skilled hacker could probably bypass the security block before listing the stolen items on eBay.

As for the now “blind” Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo, we hope that the insurance company will cover the repair costs, and deliver the EV back to its owner as soon as possible.
