New Year’s Day is the traditional start of the sales and a big shopping day, but not everything will be open.
January 1 is a bank holiday and, as previously reported, many businesses will be closed while retailers could be operating reduced working hours.
Banks are set to be closed but one grey area might affect anyone wishing to end 2023 or begin 2024 by posting a parcel or taking out holiday insurance.
Here’s when the post office is set to be open on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
Post Office opening times for New Year’s Eve
As December 31 is not a bank holiday it’s likely Post Offices will be open as usual – but they may well close earlier due to it being a Sunday.
You should check the website to confirm what time your local branch shuts up shop on New Year’s Eve before heading out.

The majority of Post Offices across the UK will be closed on January 1 but some will be open. Once more, you would do well to check the website to see if yours is among them.

New Year’s Eve: As December 31 is a Sunday there will be no post.
New Year’s Day: There will be no deliveries or collections
January 2: Normal deliveries and collections, except in Scotland where there is a bank holiday and postal services will resume one day later.
