MANILA, Philippines — Petro Gazz tapped versatile spiker Michelle Morente and former F2 Logistics middle blockers Joy Dacoron and Ethan Arce in the 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) season.
After star spiker Grethcel Soltones parted ways to join the Akari Chargers, the Angels welcomed three new players including Morente, who was a vital part of PLDT last season.
Petro Gazz on Thursday was thrilled to welcome Morente, who will be joining Jonah Sabete, Aiza Maizo-Pontillas, Djanel Cheng, Remy Palma, and other holdovers.
“Your high-octane energy will surely drive us to our desired destination! We’re glad to have an Angel named Momo! Welcome, Mich Morente,” the team wrote.
Morente emerged as one of the go-to spikers for PLDT in the first two conferences of the 2023 season before her playing time dipped in the second All-Filipino Conference as Filipino-Canadian spiker Savannah Davison and Erika Santos took charge as the main offensive options of coach Rald Ricafort.
The Angels also signed Arce and Dacoron from F2 Logistics, which was disbanded last December.
Dacoron made her return from pageantry last conference and started some games for F2 Logistics, while the former University of the Philippines stalwart Arce will be playing for her third club after Gerflor and F2 Logistics.
The middle blockers will boost the frontline of Petro Gazz as Ranya Musa continues to recover from a torn right ACL that she sustained in the season-ending conference.
Petro Gazz, which reached the first All-Filipino Finals, missed the semis of the second one after ending up in sixth place with a 6-5 record.
It was a busy day for PVL as Bea de Leon and Denden Lazaro-Revilla transferred to Creamline, Choco Mucho also signed Mars Alba, Mean Mendrez, and Bia General, and PLDT landed Kianna Dy, Majoy Baron, and Kim Fajardo.
