Rainfall causes washouts, road closures in Warren County

QUEENSBURY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Rainfall from the coastal storm continues to impact roadways throughout New York and the Northeast Region. A State of Emergency was enacted on Tuesday afternoon as flooding and road damage has worsened.
Across Warren County, high levels of water flooded streets and homes. Now, many roads have been closed due to the flood damage.
“Pretty widespread. Basically, from the western part of the county, central and northern parts of the county, they seem to have got it worse,” Don Lehman, Director of Public Affairs for Warren County, said.
So far, no evacuations have been called for, but there is moderate flooding around the Schroon River.
“That might wind up with some water in people’s homes,” Lehman said. “Potentially some areas like the River Bank section off exit 24.”
Officials are also advising drivers not to drive through flooded roadways and to also use caution when driving or even walking around flooded areas.
“You know, just because it’s shallow water doesn’t mean it’s not running fast, that there’s not damage underneath there.”
County officials are also telling News10 that they believe this will only get worse overnight and into tomorrow when rivers are predicted to crest, and they are trying to plan accordingly with the dot.
Residents are also encouraged to steer clear of puddles and standing water on roads. Other roads across Warren County closed because of washouts and/or flooding on the road include:
- Call Street (Warren County Route 32) in Lake Luzerne
- Riverbank Road (Warren County Route 11) in Bolton
- Trout Lake Road (Warren County Route 48) in Bolton
- Warrensburg Road (Warren County Route 3) in Thurman
- Harrisburg Road in Stony Creek is limited to one lane because of a shoulder washout.
The list only includes Warren County-maintained roads. Residents are warned of potential closures to town and state roads outside the county’s purview.
