2024 Ram 1500 Review, Ratings, Specs, Prices, and Photos

It may lack the turbocharged engine choices seen in mainstream versions of its primary rivals, but the Ram 1500’s two-prong approach works just fine. We rate the lineup at 7 out of 10 thanks to good power in any form and a comfortable, coil-sprung ride.

It can be. Ram offers a simple part-time setup on lower-end models, while costlier trim levels feature a convenient automatic mode that can be used on any kind of terrain.

The Rebel and TRX come only with four-wheel drive. For most users, the Rebel’s two-inch lift, height-adjustable air suspension, and all-terrain tires will be fine. The TRX goes for broke (perhaps literally, given how much it costs) with Bilstein electronic shocks, 35-inch tires, and a host of additional drive modes including a convenient Valet Mode that limits power.

How fast is the Ram 1500?

The standard 3.6-liter V-6’s 305-hp rating is augmented by its starter-generator that provides a surge of off-the-line torque for quicker acceleration. Opt for the 5.7-liter V-8 and you’ll find 395 hp, plus NASCAR-like growls from underhood. The previously available turbodiesel has been quietly dropped.

In addition to its off-road bits, the TRX makes use of a 702-hp 6.2-liter supercharged V-8, which tops the Ford F-150 Raptor, at least for now. It’s wickedly fast.

All models use a slick-shifting 8-speed automatic transmission to deliver power to the wheels.

Tow ratings vary greatly depending on the trim, body style, and options. Generally, they range from a low of around 6,500 pounds to just shy of 13,000 pounds.

The real ace up the Ram’s sleeve is its coil-sprung rear suspension that provides a tame, tolerable ride under just about any circumstances. These trucks have a planted, comfortable feel generally lacking on competitors. There’s little of the rear-end skittishness you may expect from a full-size pickup truck. Air springs are widely available, too. We’d opt for them in most cases unless low cost is your priority.

These trucks have limited body lean as a result of their good suspension tuning. Quick, accurate steering gives them a more nimble feel than their hefty dimensions suggest.
