The incident happened in the second period as Kakko and Sabres defenceman Erik Johnson get tangled up at the boards. Kakko falls to the ice, his left leg folding under him awkwardly.
Visibly in pain, Kakko left the ice with a trainer.
Kakko, 22, has played in 19 games for the Rangers this season, scoring two goals and one assist. He had the most productive season of his career last year, netting 18 goals and 40 points in 82 games.
He was selected second overall in the 2019 NHL Draft by the Rangers.
