Teresa Giudice has opened up about her time in prison, raving about the food and the ‘beautiful’ scenery.

The Real Housewives of New Jersey icon and her ex-husband, Joe Giudice, served time after they were convicted of tax fraud – with the mom-of-four surrendering to jail in 2015 for a 15-month term, after which her former partner was incarcerated.

The 51-year-old’s exit from the Federal Correction Institution in Danbury, Connecticut, was captured on camera for the Bravo program, which halted filming for the length of her stint.

Following Joe’s release, he was deported to Italy in 2019, with the pair going their separate ways shortly after.

Appearing on the Hollywood Raw podcast, she was questioned about this time in her life, and what the food was like in the facility.

‘I have to say the food was really good,’ she said. ‘And I actually cooked there, also, because I have four cookbooks. I’m a three[-time] New York Times bestselling author for three of my cookbooks out of four.’

Teresa found herself in the kitchen and happily cooking for around 200 inmates, recalling whipping up a chicken stir fry at one point.

‘I could do that, no problem. I’m Italian,’ she laughed. ‘I’m telling you, the food was so good. What was my favorite was when I first got there, they had banana nut muffins. I would have a banana nut muffin every morning, it was so good!

‘They ended up running out of them, and I was so mad because they were so good! They were really good.’

Shedding light on the rest of the experience, the RHONJ OG compared it to going to university, insisting that she actually had some freedom in the facility.

‘My roommate was a politician, I was in there with doctors, lawyers, I met a lot of cool people in there,’ Teresa continued. ‘It wasn’t bad where I was.

‘I tell my daughter it’s like being at college, but the only thing is I just couldn’t leave. I had to stay there. I was able to go outside and get fresh air. I have to say the grounds were so beautiful, the scenery was beautiful.

‘I got in the best shape ever, I worked out every single day, I read a lot. I came out and looked so rested, I used to take naps everyday like they do in Italy.’

The host added: ‘You’re making prison sound pretty good, I’m not going to lie. Sign me up, I want some Teresa food!’

Thankfully, she has four cookbooks so we can nab some of those recipes for ourselves.
